Gotu kola - the source of life
Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) is a plant of green leaves with white or light purple flowers and small oval fruit. It grows in areas of India, Japan, China, Indonesia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the South Pacific. The leaves and stems of the plant are used for medicinal purposes.
Gotu kola was used to treat colds, wounds and burns for thousands of years in India, China and Indonesia. In China it was called the "source of life". The legend says that an ancient Chinese herbalist lived for more than 200 years because of daily use gotu kola. Today in the US and Europe, Gotu kola is most commonly used in the cosmetics industry. Gotu kola reduces scarring and is effective in regeneration of the skin, the connective tissue and treatment of cellulite because of its primary ingredient - saponins (triterpenoid) that have a beneficial effect on collagen and the strenght of the skin.
