Sea buckthorn is a plant type from the family Elaeagnaceae, evergreen and thorny shrub between 1-6 meters in hight.  Male and female flowers grow on separate bushes. It grows in mountainous and coastal areas of Asia and Europe. It is believed to originate from the Himalayas, but it was also used by the ancient Greeks. In Tibet, Russia, Mongolia and China, Sea buckthorn is used to relieve cough, improve blood circulation, digestion and relieve pain. Today, the plant is mostly used in the cosmetic industry for skincare.

The oil is obtained from the  yellow orange berries, rich in nutrients, which are approximately one-third the size of blueberries.
