Jojoba oil is a liquid wax extracted from the nut of the fruit jojoba -Simmondsia chinensis-, it belongs to the family Simmondsiaceae. Jojoba shrub trees grow mainly in the arid south-western areas of the United States. Indian tribes have traditionally used the oil of jojoba nuts for skin and hair care. The whole nut was used as food only in most difficult situations, because the wax makes almost 50% of the fruit and jojoba mostly indigestible.

Jojoba oil has a slight nutty odour and a clear golden color in its raw form. It is unique because, unlike most other plant oils, its composition is similar to the sebum, fat produced by the skin glands. It greatly regenerates the skin and preserves moisture. A preferred ingredient for inflamed and irritated skin, it also stabilizes the pH of the skin. An indispensable ingredient for improving the elasticity of the skin because it is rich in vitamin E which is a natural antioxidant and prevents the formation of wrinkles.
